mac isnt going past the screen with the mac symbol

my husband downloading on the computer when it froze, so he turned it off and now it comes on goes to a blank screen for about a minute, then it shows the mac symbol and stays on that screen and wont do anything else, What can I do without having to erase all my files because I dont have backup? If there is no way of saving my files I still would like to know what to do to fix it. Please help. This happened about 4 or 5 months ago.

Boot to your operating system disk and select utilities from the menu on the top bar. Then select disk utilities/disk repair and run repair until it reports no trouble found. What was he downloading? And please when we get this repaired do backups. Be careful you don't select partition or erase. Good luck.

Hello Jen!

Try this:-

Turn the machine off by holding down the power button

turn the machine on and instantly hold down the cmd, alt, p and r.

Hold these keys down while it opens up to the apple logo, it will go black and boot again, let it do this 3 times and then when it starts again, let go.

See what that does :)

hey rj713 I dont have that disk is there anything else that I could try or where can I get that disk that I need?

hey thanks for the advice i tried it and its not doing anything its still stuck on the mac symbol, it does boot but it hasnt fixed it. Do you have any other ideas?

If you don't have the disk have your computer info handy and call the Apple Store and they will sell you the disk for about $15.

의

Have your serial number and a credit card ready when you call.
