No power to engine whatso ever but all lights on dash work

Ok i have golf gti turbo deisel 2005 the car was sounding not right for a couple of days we thought it might be a clutch issue but then driving 10km on way home from the shops it got louder then i heard a ka-ting sounded like something flew off the engine and hit the road but i couldnt see anything so i kept driving 300metres to servo and turned it off neverhasit started again i turn the key i hear the petrol relay but nothing else happens all the electrics iside car light up normal but nothing not a single noise from under the hood does anyone know what it could be?
