Hey everybody! I’ve had the iPhone 7 until very recently when I upgraded to the 11. With the new ios, I have wanted to take advantage of the ability to share notes with other people to work collaboratively. Since getting the phone a few months ago, it hasn’t allowed me to do this and I get an error saying the server is down.
Apple support was no help. I have restarted the phone, updated it, etc.

Make sure you’re saving the notes you want to share in the iCloud folders and not in the “On My iPhone” ones!
Click on the “Folders” button on the top left corner and move them to iCloud if you want to be able to share them. This took me a while to figure out so hopefully it helps.

Ankur does not know what he is talking about. Ankur just made me lose 3 months worth of notes. He is no help and make more problems than solutions. Do not follow these directions if you want to keep your notes. This was not helpful at all. I would like to down vote it, but it will not let me. I created an account just to let everyone know not to follow these directions. It will cause more headaches in the long run.

Hi,
I had this issue and was able to fix it. It could be one of two things,
1. Your iCloud is too full (this is what happened to me) I went into the settings clicked on my profile, then iCloud then managed my data, and removed all of my photos from iCloud. So just back up your stuff and either add more storage or delete the unnecessary items from your iCloud. Just free up some space in there somehow.
2. (Saw someone said this worked for them on reddit) find a way to accept iClouds new Terms and Conditions. I’m not sure where to find this but someone said they noticed they hadn’t accepted the t&c and once they did they were able to share notes again.

Think this is correct. I have the same issue and I’ve just noticed my iCloud storage is completely full.

My iCloud was almost full so I deleted some data and tried again and it worked 👍🏾

I found if I shared using the email address instead of the phone number I could share notes with another person.

I tried this and it’s saying that I have the settings on private, which I didn’t even know was possible. I also can’t find any information online explaining or even alluding to that possibility
same :( my friend shareds a note page with me but i can’t open it because it’s private
This worked for me! I was sending to the iPhone user’s phone # instead of their Apple ID. Repeated attempts to their phone # for about a year without success until I finally looked up a solution - duh - worked like a charm once I sent to their Apple ID. Thank you! The insanity loop has stopped. 🤓

Try pressing and holding the power button - as if to turn it off. Then swipe up to go to the home screen.

This hasn't worked for me
My parents shared an iPad for years, but just now, they bought another one. They both had notes on the first iPad and wanted to share the notes accross the two apple IDs. I shared about 19 notes from ipad#1 and tried connecting with ipad#2. The first note went ok. On the second note I got an error message stating “Can't Open Note Sorry, this note can't be opened right now. Please try again later.” This made absolutely no sense to me. After an hour of testing this and that, googling for solutions - this is what worked for me.
This absolutely meaningless solution seemed to be what needed to be done to get it working. Both iPads were on the latest iOS (15.2)

It worked! Make sure you have everything backed up before starting, then follow the instructions provided by Ankur. In order to restore the notes, turn everything back on (notes for iCloud) and MAKE SURE YOURE CONNECTED TO WIFI so everything can sync otherwise it won’t work. Sn: Do NOT reset all settings though. If that doesn’t work, you can access everything by logging on to your iCloud in a browser.
