Hi there Rody! The iPhone 12 as of now is unrepairable if you are looking for parts that are guaranteed to be 100% efficient. I’m pretty sure the iPhone 12 screen is code binded and would need sodering to link the screen to your iPhone. So long answer short, the iPhone 12 is repairable but will not be 100% efficient.

Hi Rody,

Apple has accelerated their policy of pairing components to the logic board to now include screens and batteries as of the iPhone 12. However, that doesn't mean they can't be replaced; there are about three options available to you in the event you need to replace one of those parts.

  1. Utilize the Apple self-repair program. That will correctly pair the new parts to the phone and everything will work as it did originally. Downsides are that you have to rent their tools to do the job and buy the parts from them. Note that the parts they sell aren't cheap.
  2. Swap over certain components from the old device to the new one. On the battery that means cutting off the BMS, or Battery Management System board from the battery cell and welding it onto a new cell. A programmer comes in handy here to reset the battery usage count and efficiency setting. For the screen, there's an IC that must be removed from the old screen and soldered onto a replacement screen. Again, a device programmer such as the Qian Li iCopy device is needed to complete the job. Vendors are selling both battery cells and screens without the required part specifically for the purpose of transferring parts from the old components.
  3. Live with it. You will get pop-up warnings for about a week warning you about a "non-genuine part" even if it is a genuine Apple part. After that, warnings for the battery or phone will appear permanently in the settings. Outside of losing the True Tone function if you don't use a programmer and the loss of the battery health indications, both the battery and the screen will function normally.

That about covers my understanding of the situation; if I've missed anything hopefully some of the repair technicians who do this sort of thing for a living will pop in and correct any misstatements I've made or add anything I've missed.

Short story for me is that the iPhone X is about the last phone I want to work on. That won't happen with my family, but a guy can dream, can't he?
