Can a swollen battery cause GPU panics...?

I have a 2010 15” MacBook Pro with a Simplo battery that's been slowly growing swollen for a few months, and in that few months I've been getting GPU panics easily triggered via Mission Control.

Once I took out the swollen battery, I can no longer reproduce the GPU panics despite having set to dedicated graphics via gfxCardStatus. I'm still using the original MagSafe charger that came with my MBP to power the unit.

Can a swollen battery be the cause of GPU panics...? Can a replacement of a good battery get rid of the GPU panics long enough to last me until the new 14/16 MBPs arrive...?

For a history, the logic board on this Mac was once replaced by Apple 6 years ago for the same GPU problem, minus the battery issue.

What you likely encountered with the swollen battery in your system was pressure against the logic board causing micro fractures on one or more solder joints which effected the GPU logic. When you took the battery out and hopefully replaced with a new one the micro fracture stresses where released re-established the connections.

Will it hold up until Apple releases the new M1 14/16” models I can’t answer that.

I would be careful not to push the system to the extreme. No heavy graphics.
