Detached socket on logic board. Micro-solder?

Block Image

While pulling out the DC charging port connector on the logic board during a repair, I stupidly pulled out the entire socket that was soldered to the board. The pins and the socket are still intact (see photo), but obviously the laptop will NOT charge until reconnected…

Is it possible to re-solder the socket to the pins and the board? And, I’m in Chicago. Where is the appropriate place for that specific repair? MacBook repair shops seem to want to gouge me by wanting to replace the entire charging assembly when the detached, independent socket is the only issue…

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sadly, this is a custom version of the part for Apple. You’ll need to find a junker logic board that has a good connector to get the part from and then you should be able to unsolder the remaining pins on the logic board to then solder the replacement connector. Sadly yours is not salvageable.

I find this is something an independent MacBook repair tech can do as they often have the needed parts.

Thank you so much, Dan.

A MacBook specialist quoted me for $205 for parts and labor. Sounded fair. What’s your take?

Depending on what you have now 8 or 16 GB you may want to upgrade the logic board instead if you are finding its long in the tooth.

Otherwise, $200 is about right for here in Boston & Chicago. Some countries and areas might be lower and NY would be more ;-{
