Need 2nd monitor at 1440 x 900 compatible with MacBook Pro

I’m using my old MacBook Pro as a 2nd computer exclusively for Zoom meetings. Can’t find accessory monitor compatible with MacBook Pro’s maximum resolution of 1440 x 900. One I bought is 1920 x 1080 and there’s distortion. Can you recommend where I might find a second monitor that would display clearly and be compatible with Mac?

The confusion of 1440 x 900! What you are seeing is Apples odd size of its laptops display of this generation.

But thats not important! Your external monitor has its own values.

The trick is looking at your monitors display options and find the common one with your system. You may need a different display if it doesn’t offer any alterations.

So if we look at what your systems GPU can push:

  • 1440 by 900 (native) at 16:10 aspect ratio (your systems internal display)
  • 1280 by 800, 1152 by 720, 1024 by 640, and 800 by 500 pixels at 16:10 aspect ratio
  • 1024 by 768, 800 by 600, and 640 by 480 pixels at 4:3 aspect ratio
  • 1024 by 768, 800 by 600, and 640 by 480 pixels at 4:3 aspect ratio stretched
  • 720 by 480 pixels at 3:2 aspect ratio & 720 by 480 pixels at 3:2 aspect ratio stretched

What does your monitor offer that is on this list? Now with your display plugged in via your systems Mini DisplayPort (VGA, DVI, or dual-link DVI with adapter)

Now go into your systems preferences Displays you should now see your external monitor and you should see the options to alter the settings. Now alter the setting to match your external displays setting (you may need to manually set it within the monitors settings).

One thing that can mess you up is the adapter unit you use as some interfaces can’t support the higher screen settings.
