Snoopy Hallmark toy, not moving [Looking for datasheet of SC4057]

Hello,

I’m trying to fix a Snoopy Hallmark toy, it looks like this

The idea is that Snoopy is meant to rock back and forth to the music, using a magnetic coil and some magnets embedded in the base.

I have opened up the toy and checked the connectivity of the coil and there are no breaks in the coil, the circuit board status also looks fine, no burns or marks, plus it still plays the music and “talks” to the other toys (it sends out a radio signal so that all the other toys play in sync with the music)

Looking up the toy online I was able to find a schematic here, which matches up perfectly. https://fccid.io/SQ9XKT1000/Schematics/C...

Doing a little bit of additional sleuthing with an oscilloscope, I was also able to determine that there are pulses happening on lines T9 and T10, so I suspect that the SC4057 chip is not working in some way.

However I’m unable to find this chip online and I don’t really know what this chip does, I’m hoping that someone know the datasheet for the chip or figure out what it does.

Thanks

Are there any markings on the SC4057 IC on the board?

Yep quite hard to read but the first line is SC4057 the second line I'm a bit unsure about but it looks like U168 or H168 or maybe just 11168.

Hi, Did you ever find out what SC4057 is? I have a Charlie Brown that will not rock. My SC4057 has a burned hole in the top. I imagine this IC just reverses VDC polarity across the coil. I was able to get Charlie to rock by applying 100mA to the coil and then reversing the polarity. Thanks..

Unfortunately no, I thought it might be some form of a latch or h-bridge motor driver but wasn't able to find anything.

My Charlie Brown just stopped rocking this year. I appreciate the intelligent and insightful conversation, but I don't see a fix. 😏 Anything new? Charlie Brown Band playing is a Christmas tradition at our house.

After removing the 4 screws (2 are under pads) the bottom should pull out. You do not remove the different color top.

I'm looking forward to trying the IC swap. This has been sitting under my desk for 2 years.

Hi Greg So what happened with your repair? My Charlie Brown and Snoopy both stopped working literally a few days after having rhem new. They worked fine and moved and played he music , but after only using them 4 or 5 times I noticed a burning smell coming out from the batteries. I had used New Energizer bateries. Do you think the Lithium batteries would burn the motor for movement part yet allow the music part to still operate? I have sensed replace the lithium batteries In my shredder And Lucy with triple A. Regular energizer just to be safe. Any idea exactly how or if I can repair the Charlie Brown and Snoopy? They both play music but no longer mute And they both had that weird smell emanating from the bottom of the battery pack when I took off the battery cover. Thank you so much for your input.

I really want to help since I fixed a similar toy to this, since it is supposed to rock back and forth to the music, using a magnetic coil and some magnets embedded in the base, what is making the magnetic coil move? My guess it’s some type of motor in the toy, that is weak and stopped moving the toy. If it’s the circuit board try to test the power in the board using a multimeter. Sometimes the board can short out, and not have enough power to move the toy anymore, only enough power to make it still sing/play music. If you can find the source to the magnetic coil and how it makes the snoopy rock, you can determine how to fix it.

The connection for the magnetic coil is through the SC4057 chip (OUTA and OUTB on the circuit diagram), which is the component which I suspect is shorted out, unfortunately I cannot find out what the chip does or what it is to replace it and hopefully resolve the issue.

I've also determined the voltage being provided to VDD of the chip is sufficient enough to power the coil (roughly 4.5V)

ok cool. I wish you the best of luck

i was able to repair the Snoopy by replacing the SC4057 with a L9110 chip, which is a H-bridge motor driver. the problem is that it is electrically compatible but not physically compatible.it is an SOIC8 surface mount and looks the same, but not a single pin matches up. So after removing the old chip, i soldered tiny #30 wires 2 inches long to all 8 pins, and using a break out board with the L9110 module soldered on it, soldered the other ends of the wires to the breakout board. Not an easy soldering job, but with a very fine tipped soldering iron it can be done. Denny WT4DL

I’ve just started into trying fix my Charlie Brown too. I’m still at trying to remove the box from the top after the 4 screws have been removed. Can’t figure it out and definitely don’t want to break anything. Advice???? Thanks!

Thanks!! Next step is understanding the great details in @d2leak’s solution and starting the job

@d2leak

There are two wires, two colors: one black and the other copper. Is this normal or has one been fried? I am not very mechanically inclined, thanks for your help.
