battery gets hot fast and wont charge

i grabbed a hot spot charger because i could not find my regular charger and now the battery icon when charging will pop on for a couple of seconds and then the screen goes back it continually does this flashing of the battery icon. The battery inside the tablet seems to get really hot and will not charge. I can get it to charge to like 1 % and turn on the tablet but it only last a minute before it is drained. Did i fry the battery.
