Why is the start-up chime distorted after replacing the battery?

I replaced the battery in my Macbook without issue. On start-up, the chime sounded shrill, fractured, and distorted. Once it booted up normal, the speakers play audio perfectly fine and the battery is holding a charge.

What could be causing the start up chime to be distorted and shrill?
