Battery not charging and random shutdowns (liquid damage)

Block Image

Hi there,

I have a problem with my MacBook Air and it is due to liquid damage. I am wondering if there is a way to diagnose what is causing the issue without spending a fortune on parts?

the damage was years ago, around 2014. I am wondering if the shutdowns are being caused by the logic board or the battery, or maybe something else? I don’t care about having a new battery but if that would stop the random shutdowns then I wouldn’t mind replacing it. I only use it as a sofa laptop.

could I remove the battery and run it without it? I would assume that if the shutdowns are not because of the battery then I can just replace the logic board? Or could it be something else. Unless the shutdowns are normal behaviour with a battery less MacBook?

It looks like it’s not detecting any battery, but that doesn’t mean the battery isn’t the problem. Try removing the battery with the guide below. If it still has problems then the battery isn’t the problem, and it’ll most likely be the logic board. Fixing it is another can of worms.

The batteries onboard micro controller is not communicating with SMC. SMC appears to be working as it see's the charger is connected.

Given how easy it is to replace I would start off by doing that. Liquid damage gear is always iffy. I think you have a good chance of fixing this just with a new battery.
