Can I use a SSD with firmware lock?

I have a MacBook Air 2013 perfect condition. I have a SSD from a MacBook Air 2015 but the MacBook Air 2015 had a firmware lock. I was wondering if I could use a firmware lock SSD on a good MacBook Air without getting my 2013 MacBook having a firmware lock. I only wonna do this because the firmware lock SSD has more storage.

Transferring the SSD doesn’t carry the firmware lock, so that wouldn’t be an issue. But the user account on the system would prevent access to the drives info. And you also have the issue of what OS-X/macOS was on it as you may have an issue between HFS+ vs APFS file systems.

I would recommend getting an external case to hold the SSD so you can access it via your working system then you can reformat it and install the same OS your currently running as well as transfer your stuff over (apps & data)

External Apple SSD case: OWC Envoy Pro

When I put it in my MacBook (internally) i booted it into recovery mode. It wouldn’t show up in the disk utility.

@Ashley Nixon - correct as you have a file system conflict. Need to boot up under your system and use disk utility within it accessing the SSD via the Envoy Pro case.
