Will upgrading my mid-2013 MacBook Air to an SSD solve my issues?

Hi all, I have a mid-2013 13” MacBook Air that appears to have crashed on me.  A couple days ago I was watching YouTube and it froze up, so I put it to sleep and when I rebooted I got the flashing question mark folder.  I’ve tried all the help suggestions online, but the only disk option I see is OS X Base System.  This makes me think that my hard drive has died, so I’m hoping that I can fix the problem by replacing the hard drive.  Just thought I’d check in with some more tech-savvy people before taking the plunge, I’m thinking of ordering a 2 TB SSD from OWC so I just want to make sure this is a good idea before going through with it.

I ran the diagnostics and got the error code VDH002.

Interestingly enough, since this started happening my computer did boot up once and take me to the login screen, but I haven’t been able to get it to do that again.  I’ve tried opening it up and blasting it with the air duster, even unplugged the hard drive and put it back in but no luck so far.

Yes, this plan should work. While you can get just the drive, I would recommend getting the upgrade kit, which includes the tools you should need and an external enclosure (which helps with troubleshooting).

Awesome! Yeah I’m trying to decide about whether I want the kit or not... if I’m correct and the hard drive is dead then the external enclosure might not be too much use for me. Bought a cheapo set of tools off amazon for when I tried air dusting so I’m also set on that front!
