MBA SMC fail, or charging? Hardware diag fail too. Help.

Hi, was having trouble with an MBA 5,2— very poor battery endurance. Ordered a replacement batt from you and installed. For cal, charged to 100% + two hours, then started to run down to zero. Died after just a few hours, and now won’t charge at all. Reset SMC several times. MagSafe light is orange, coconutBattery sees all zeros, see attached. I tried to run hardware diagnostic (holding D at boot), but it boots into internet recovery, with or without option key. Then throws error “Cannot Load ‘EFI/Drivers/TestSupport.efi”. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your volunteer support Dan!

This Mac is not screen-shotting with normal keyboard commands, so attaching a photo of coconutBattery main window. Been sitting all night, shut down, with orange MagSafe light, and still the same.

To clarify the Blog space is maned by unpaid volunteers, The iFixit Store offers the space to help people.

I'm suspecting you have a bad battery or the charging logic has a problem but I can't tell from what you've posted.

I get more useful information from CoconutBattery. Can you please take a snapshot of the apps main window and post it here for us to see 기존 질문에 이미지 추가하기

To start with the micro-controller within the battery is not working properly. So you do need to replace the battery contact the Fixit store for a warranty exchange Contact iFixit Customer Support

Also make sure your MagSafe charger is in good shape and the contact block on the system is clean and pins are not tarnished or pitted.

Thanks Dan! I also noted today that the Energy Saver prefs wouldn't update for screen or sleep settings, and if I tried to check the box to "show battery status in menu bar", it flashes and then unchecks itself. Occurred to me to try swapping the old battery back in. Produced exactly the same conditions-- MagSafe is correctly green for a moment before switching to amber, but same all-zero's data in coconutBattery, not charging at all. Given this, would you still say battery is a likely cause? Have tried mult MagSafe's (all OEM), but will try some alcohol on the Mac contacts.

Did you short out the battery connector when you disconnected it using a metal tool? Its possible you blew the logic but that could be the Micro-controller within the battery or the front end logic which feeds the SMC. I've mostly seen this when the battery is bad, rarely is it the SMC logic.

I still think I would give a fresh battery a try but make sure you use a plastic tool to disconnect the battery.
