I am experiencing the question mark folder error after few hours of on-time. Internet posts point to the hard drive cable being the issue which led me to here.

It’s a matter of which bay the boot drive is in and what you have for drives.

The kit offers the needed tool to open the system, that U shaped tool, needed drivers & screws.

I assume it's an entirely stock late 2012 Mac mini, so whatever their stock configuration was
