replacement battery drains on idle

I installed a new battery for my xiaomi redmi note 8. Over 50% it drains in a normal rate. Below 50% it drains really fast only if the device is idle (wifi off, screen closed, no apps running etc...). Otherwise it drains at a normal rate. I calibrated the battery, but it still does the same. I sent it back and got a new one and still the same issue. I haven't calibrate the new one yet. The original didn't have these issues, I just changed it because it started wearing out. The issue exists on miui 12.5, but on lineage os 17.1 as well. My bootloader is unlocked and I have tried both rooted and non rooted. Any thoughts of what might be wrong and how to fix it?
