turns on, but has a black screen.
I have the same issue i have tried everything. When I peek through the logo I see nothing. But if a double tap on the space bar the system will restart. Please help. All these started from me trying to reset nvram using command option p and r

When I input my password the system just restarts

What do you see if you place a flashlight shining through the logo? Do you see the faint image of your desktop and its icons?
If that doesn't' work, Restart your system and press the T key to enter into Target Disk Mode, you should see a FireWire icon floating on the screen do you?
