It is indeed possible to replace the SD card reader, but since it's soldered to the motherboard, you'll need some upper-level soldering skills to remove the old one and resolder the new one, as it is a surface mounted device.

The replacement part itself isn't too difficult to find; it came up on eBay easily enough; you can also check other sites like Amazon and AliExpress. Here's an independent shop that offers it for sale. (I hate putting up eBay listings because in a month or a year or five years that listing will be gone and the link will be worthless.)
