Playstation 3 not reading games

I have a playstation 3 model cechl with blu ray drive bd-410 with laser part kes-410a.

My playstation 3 no longer reads dual layer blu ray discs so uncharted 3 won't read. The laser also doesn't work on dvd discs.

In learning about how to take the drive apart to get to the laser, now the laser won't read any blu ray discs.

My question is should I replace just the laser or do I need to replace the entire disc drive?

The ps3 can still eject discs. It seems like a silly question to ask, months back, I had a ps4 that wouldn't read about half the ps4 games that I had and I replaced the entire drive, laser and all. That solved the problem. Does it matter with the ps3?
