Light flash, and nothing

The unit worked well the first time it was turned on. But not since then. Now the power light stays orange. It never gets to green, despite having been left plugged in for up to 24 hours. And, then, when we push the "on" slide, approximately three seconds later, _both_ screens flash a white light. It's never one screen or the other; both flash simultaneously. And then nothing happens.

We bought this unit used from some outfit in Hong Kong. There is no visible damage to the unit. The user reports no damage after using it that first time.

Any guesses as to what's wrong? TIA
