Trying to replace the control panel module

My control panel module is faulty. I'm trying to remove the module, but for some reason I can't remove the combination start/stop selector dial on the frame of the machine. The only instructions I have found online says to simply pry it up and off. I'm afraid it will break as there is no give whatsoever.
