Yes. Just remember the PS3 cannot address drives larger than 1 TB.

You can get SATA adapters to install standard HDDs and SSDs into the expansion slot so it is possible but I cannot see why. The hardware is slow enough that it couldn’t utilize the speeds of an SSD in any noticeable way. A standard hard drive would work just as good for much cheaper.
