iPhone 7 Apple Logo Loads then Boot Loops.

Hi, I have an iPhone 7 which loads about 5% with an Apple Logo, then seems to crash and reboot all over again. I have tried:

  • Rebooting with Front Camera Flex removed
  • Rebooting with Screen Assembly completely removed
  • iTunes and 3uTools flash
    • Both flashes are successful, but after the flash reboot the problem persists
  • Reseating the battery

I have heard that other people with the same problem say it can be an Audio IC issue, but the nature of the boot loop suggests it isn't the IC since it does not stay on the Apple Logo, instead it just reboots every 10 seconds.

When flashing using 3uTools, the iPhone actually appears as a device with all the information for about 1 second, before it disconnects and the boot loop cycle begins.

Is there any other suggestions/advice I can try? Thanks.

Have you tried a replacement battery? This will be your next step in the repair.

@imicrosoldering I haven't. I initially thought it couldn't be the battery since it held charge but it is worth a try. I've just ordered a replacement.

hello Umar,

You're right, this is not a problem of the audio system - the characteristic variables for such a fault are missing. If the restore proceeds correctly and the screen displays the entire boot process correctly, everything points to an accessory problem. Disconnect everything from the motherboard, even take the motherboard out of the housing and run it on a table with only the screen attached (no Home button, no battery and no Face.Time front assembly). I suppose that the board will boot normally.

Hi, thanks for your comment. I'm quite new to repairs so I'm not sure what you mean here. Will the board boot without a battery connected?

@umar83553 The phone will not boot without the battery or a DCPS connected and could result in damaging one of the charging IC’s. You are better of trying the replacement battery first so as you don’t introduce new variables into this repair.

@umar83553

I thought if you're talking about the audio issue, screenless recovery, etc, you know a lot more about repair process. And of course, I meant the workshop power supply - without electricity, the motherboard will not start :-) We must consider it a necessary condition :-)

On the other hand, it will be difficult to suggest a supplementation the deficiencies of diagnostic equipment and knowledge before starting this repair, so maybe use the services of a good repair shop and order a full diagnosis for this motherboard. You will bypass the hardware problem related to diagnostics and you will be able to repair your phone. This is probably the cheapest solution (much cheaper than buying a new battery, which probably won't introduce anything new).

@tojaert I understand. I have been reading quite a lot of forums on here about the same issue, which has probably given me a lot of knowledge about this sort of repair. If the battery replacement does not work I will strongly consider your suggestion. I have already ordered the battery so I will try that first. Thank you.

Hi Umar,

Sounds a lot like what happened with my wife's 7 plus; unfortunately you've already done the diagnostic procedure that pinned it down for me, i.e., unplugging the front camera. In her case, replacing the front camera assembly did the job, but obviously that's not the problem you're seeing.

I'd say if the battery doesn't do the job, the other two parts that have a history of causing boot loops are the lightning port assembly and the power/volume cable. If it was mine, I'd probably try a new lightning port assembly next.

Good luck; you've got our curiosity going so be sure and let us know what you find!

Hi Jerry, thanks for your comment. Hopefully the battery does do the job, I will be sure to update once it is replaced!

Bad news - the battery replacement seems to have done nothing so far. I have rebooted with a new battery, tried restoring with the new battery and doing a combination of the other solutions such as removing the flex cable etc. I will try the lightning port assembly soon.

@umar83553 To test if the lightning port is causing it not to boot, power the phone on as soon as the apple logo appears then disconnect the lightning connector from the board. If it boots it is the lightning connector causing the problem. I suppose you can then check the audio IC, I have found if you leave the phone boot looping for around 15 minutes it will boot if it has audio IC disease.

I have seen this tutorial, however, the software used is free to download but paid to use. You basically can't use it for anything useful unless you pay for the software. I have used 3uTools instead since all the software does is flash a firmware.

Hey Umar I am having the same problem with my iPhone 8 Plus. I think its a battery issue cause it can't see to hold a charge. I cleaned the charger port but the cord still has a hard time charging it. I have to put the cord in a certain direction for it to work. Let me know what you think

@jaxonc24897 If you have to hold the charging plug in a certain way to get it to charge, you probably need to replace the port. Given the age of an iPhone 8 Plus, it's probably ready for a new battery as well. If it was mine, I'd go ahead and order a replacement lightning port assembly along with a new battery and swap them both out at the same time.

would that be the reason it is stuck on the apple logo even iTunes restore did not work
