Hi,
I am trying to repair a A1706 Macbook, that has no backlight on several keys. Im not seeing much info on this online, is the keyboard backlight located on the actual keyboard bottom? or the film behind it?
I see the "keyboard backlight" film being sold online, Im not understanding how it gets power also? as there is no power ribbon as previous models ?

The keyboard is a sandwich, behind the keyboard is the backlight plate and then a black cover sheet.
This is one example US Keyboard Backlight For MacBook Pro 13" Retina A1706 2016 2017 (Touch Bar) there are a few versions depending on the language layout.
It’s a bit of a chore to get to as you need to strip the system down quite far. We don’t have a guide on the process, but this MacBook Pro 13" Touch Bar 2017 분해도 will give you an idea what’s involved as the backlight is under the logic board.

Thanks for your response dan. I have no problem digging in to this machine.
I took out the underlay underneath the keyboard from another palmrest assembly, which is not the same as previous versions where you could actually see the led's and ribbon cable. It has no ribbon cable or source of power (?)
Which makes me think the led's are actually embedded in the keyboard or on the film
@broumi - The keyboard is under the logic board not the palm rest which is where the battery is.
The backlight is quite thin so you might not realize it.
