Weird Texture on Laptop Screen - Poor Anti-glare coat?

Hi,

I recently purchased a new LOQ Lenovo computer and noticed a weird texture on my screen; it is on the screen, not a graphical artifact or anything of the sort.

It is a strange wave texture, almost like "tire-marks", all across the monitor screen. It is not localized on one spot. It is best seen on white backgrounds, and you have to be angled away from it to view.

It isn't anything like a stain, as I wiped the screen with distilled water & a clean microfiber cloth. The laptop itself is about a few weeks old.

I attached several images: the texture itself is very difficult to see, but you can pinpoint some track-like marks on the screen. I can edit and select them specifically on request.

I wonder what this could be: is it the anti-glare coating? Or something more related to damage?

Update (06/12/23)

Update on this situation. Just in case.

I sent for a replacement; new one came through. The screen is much better, but indeed, it looks like I was right; it is just a variable on the anti-glare coating they use, since I can see some elements of that same track pattern on the brand new replacement (the manufacturing date of the replacement laptop is just a little under a month old, as of current writing).

There was a strange audio issue on this new one, and for anyone curious on a solution to Realtek's crackling audio on a laptop, it is most likely caused by the power setting, Link State Power Management under the PCI-E option. Whatever issues I had with the audio were gone when I changed this to "off". Very strange.

Best to all.

Yes, it is. I am hoping to avoid replacement unless absolutely necessary, which is why I was curious on what exactly this is.

@ahnotbad you would need to replace the screen, what loq laptop do you have in particular?

@timtomissus It is the LOQ Lenovo 15 RH8; I submitted a ticket through Lenovo so we will see where things go from there.

The specific screen too, if you were curious, is a BOE NV156FHM-NX3.

I never experienced such a strange effect on a screen before.

yeah, thats weird, and unless you go the warranty route, you will have to replace the screen.

i have bad news, and a little good news

its so new that lenovo website has no parts or guides for your laptop published yet.

i did find a amazon listing that came up when i looked up your pc model, however, so maybe it will fit you pc?

https://www.amazon.com/LCDOLED-Replaceme...

heres also a link to look around ebay, as i dont wanna recommend something that might not fit you latop :(

@timtomissus Yeah it is super new, even Lenovo just responded saying two choices: refund or replacement. I like the laptop so I will attempt a replacement. The issue is so difficult to showcase through picture too.

I’ll see where that goes; I was really more interested on what the problem is - some sort of mismatch with the anti-glare coating? I’ve owned a lot of different matte AG monitors and never experienced such a strange effect.
