Why is my controller lagging?

My controller will lag out randomly. For example I push right, the character doesn’t move, then moves as if I was holding right for a few seconds, rather than just pressing it once. I have 3 different controllers and every one of them do it.

Since you are saying this is happening on 3 separate controllers I am led to believe there is some kind of interference.

You can troubleshoot this easily if you have a computer or laptop with Bluetooth, try connecting the controller to that device and going to this website to test it and check for lag. Here are instructions on how to put a Dualshock 4 in Pairing Mode. You just turn it on holding the Share and PS buttons at the same time. You can also connect with a micro USB cable directly and skip pairing mode entirely - just don't turn the controller on when you plug it into your computer.

  • If that worked, its possible there is something blocking the Bluetooth antenna on your PS4, like dust. Try blowing compressed air into the vents of your PS4 to remove dust. If that doesn't work you may need to disassemble further, just follow the first few steps of this guide to get the outer shells off to clean.
  • If connecting to a laptop didn't work, try connecting your controller to a laptop directly with the USB cable and going to that same testing site I linked earlier. This will confirm if it is an issue with the Bluetooth in the controller itself, or some other interference in the room you are playing in.

I hope this helps!
