Repair your Dyson V6 Animal vacuum with a part replacement guide.

Flashing red light when trying to use my vacuum

I am getting a steady interval flashing red light when trying to use my vacuum. (I stopped counting at 25 consecutive flashes.)

It properly charged during its last charge but will not function. My instinct tells me this may be a battery issue as I'm sure it's reached its maximum charge/disbursement lifetime.

I also notice that if I plug it in to charge now, I get the same flashing red light. It has not been dropped or anything else.

Is a battery the correct component I should be eyeballing?

Many thanks!

Kim K.

If the LED indicator on your Dyson V6 flashes red when the vacuum is on or charging, it means the battery is faulty and the vacuum cannot be powered on or charged. The battery will need to be changed to address the flashing red light issue.

You can try resetting the battery by unplugging the charger from the wall, plugging it back in, connecting it to the vacuum, pulling the trigger and holding it for 20 seconds, and then letting go of the trigger.

Otherwise, here's the battery you'll need: https://www.dyson.com/support/journey/to...

The light is blue on the charger. As he said, when using the vacuum, it turns red and flashes. In other words, it's not the battery.

I have just replaced the battery with a generic adaptor for Makita 18v Li battery. It is on a found V6 Dyson, discarded in street.

Although the Dyson battery is rated at 21v, this seems to work well. I think the actual voltage of many nominally 18v Li batteries is around 21v, fully charged. The Dyson supposedly has a cut-out if the voltage drops below 18v, so I guess I'll just "suck-it-and-see".

This one will be used in shed where I have many Makita tools and batteries.
