What sensors in the Meta Quest 2 controllers control hand tracking?

I am in the process of repairing meta quest 2 controllers at the moment, and I keep running into an issue where I replace the joystick on the controller, but then I go to test it afterwards and my thumb just hovers on the joystick and will not move unless I actuate another button. My thumb just jumps back to the stick after a different button press. It doesnt track my thumb hovering on the A or B buttons either, only when I actually press the buttons is when my thumb will stop hovering on the joystick.

What sensors inside of these controllers control the "hand tracking" while using the controller? I have ran into this issue with the rear trigger as well.

There are built-in sensors in the buttons, sticks, triggers and thumb rests that track finger movement. I’m guessing that either you used an aftermarket joystick that doesn’t have the right sensors, you installed it incorrectly, or the joystick is defective. Does the thumb rest (the little rough pad thing on the controller) still detect when your thumb is on it?

Do you mean in the actual plastic buttons/triggers there are sensors?

The thumb rest does not detect my thumb moving over to it.

I’m not sure if the sensor is in the button itself, or if it’s directly beneath the button. It might work sort of like how the Nintendo Switch NFC reader works, where the reader just happens to be underneath the joystick, but the sensors very well might actually be part of the buttons.
