do you mean the metering diaphragm, i have the same issue where it will start and run at wot but as soon as i let off it dies within 10 seconds — Peter

It could be that it is sucking air making it run lean and only at high RPM. Look at your spark plug what does it look like? Do a leak down test.

Check the compression of the motor.
