Replaced subwoofer only to notice the connector is different

Hello all! I was replacing the subwoofer on my mid-2010 13" MacBook Pro when I realized the connector I received from iFixIt was a bit different from my original one (factory version). I verified it was the right part before I bought it, so maybe its just an updated part? Any ideas on how I attach it again? I'm no stranger to soldering, but I feel like this might require some kind of heat tool or something & I don't want to melt any nearby connections.

Left is new iFixIt one, right is original.

Here's a photo like requested (sorry for the delayed response). The circled area is where it was connected.

@mhall4321 post an image of your logic board showing the area where the connector is supposed to be. Let's see what that looks like.

@mhall4321 Melissa, I took the liberty of moving your image link and comment to your question, as images aren't supported in comments here on iFixit.

Yup. Looks like you guys were right. Wish me luck with getting it attached again.

It looks like the connector on the main logic board has broken off of the board and is still attached to the cable. That's why your part looks different—because it has the broken connector still connected to the end of it. If you upload a picture of the connector area on the main logic board we can confirm this.

To repair that you would need to remove the connector from your subwoofer cable and then resolder it to the main logic board, which can be pretty difficult. Good luck!

Zacary called this one, I'm afraid. The funniest thing about it is I went looking for a picture to compare your board to on the subwoofer replacement guide and it looks to me like they did the exact same thing you did; knocked the board connector off when trying to disconnect the cable.

Anyway, the good news is it looks to me like the pads on the board are intact so in theory a touch with the soldering iron will hopefully be all it takes to get you back in business.
