What can I recycle the parts for?

I've gotten the entire thing disassemble, from together with slight cracking case to, screen removed, motherboard out of case, DVD drive disconnected. My question is what can I reuse the parts for? Could I get the fan and heatsink and fuse them together and cool down my current laptop(MacBook air mid 2013)? Could I get the DVD drive or hard drive as a external for my my computer? Could I even use the Wi-Fi card for insperon 570 desktop and not need to be connected via lan?

Also could I use the lan, two usb, power port, board for something else?

@cosmiccolin "could I get the fan and heatsink and fuse them together and cool down my current laptop(MacBook air mid 2013)" No. Wont fit nor will it match up with anything. "Could I get the DVD drive or hard drive as a external for my my computer" HDD yes, with a proper Sata to USB cable or an external drive case that you can get at places like Amazon etc. DVD drive would require a cable that connects from the drive to USB. So, that might me possible as well. For the WiFi card, that will depend on what motherboard your inspiron 570 desktop has and if it has the proper connections. Sell the motherboard at the usual places as a donor board. That way people that still repair this model might be interested in it. The LCD could be turned into a freestanding monitor with the right driver board.

I love the idea of repurposing these components. As for what you can use where, there are definitely some things you can put in other devices.

  • Hard drive and DVD drive are pretty universal. You can definitely get an enclosure for the drive and use it for external storage., or even just with a SATA to USB cable (assuming it's a SATA type drive), but it will be less portable and more susceptible to damage without an enclosure.
  • DVD drive might be a bit trickier since these sometimes use proprietary connections. But to use it as an external drive you probably only need a SATA to USB adapter.
  • The WiFi card could be compatible with other devices, you may need an adapter to make it work in a desktop since they don't usually use the same kids of slots for expansion cards, but I'm sure it's plausible. We'll need to see what sort of card it is to advise more specifically.
  • Fan/heatsink might be trickier since those are usually built to accommodate the housing of their original laptop. They could be used possibly, but would definitely require some modification.
