power button stopped working rest of keyboard and trackpad are fine

The powerbutton of my macbook 12" early 2016 stopped working. The weird thing is that i turned the mac off using the power button. Than it just turned off. Next day its not working, need to start the mac using the power cable.

That being said, 4 months ago ive replaced the batteries, while doing so the keyboard also stopped working, turned out the internal flat cable wasnt completely connected, ive recornnected it and all was fine.

Just to be sure it isnt the cable, ive disconnected it and reconnected it, im certain its in the connector correctly. Also ive checked all the buttons, and literally the power button is the only one not working. Caps also illuminates correctly.

Im baffeld. If someone has an answer id be gratefull, thanks!

The Power button is no different than the other keyboard keys! So the discrete button can fail beyond the keyboard connection you had faced before.

Here the switch discretely connects to the logic board via the ribbon cable so is there any damage to the ribbon cable along it as well at the connection point? It’s also possible you had a liquid spill which got into switch contacts.

I don’t remember if the Apple Bluetooth keyboard power button will work here. That might be a possibility to at least help isolate the problem down.
