Why won't my cassette player work without a dc adapter?

I recently got a cassette player for my Halloween costume, and I've discovered that it won't play when I use batteries, brand new ones at that. But when I plug it up to a power adapter it works perfectly fine. At first, I thought it that it wasn't portable until I watched a video of someone unboxing the same product and theirs worked fine.

I have a similar problem to this I have a Majima K66 cassette player where the options are supposed to be AA batteries OR Bluetooth I've tried using the Bluetooth feature, but it only works when plugged into the DC 5V adapter which is only supposed to charge the cassette player the manual wasn't very clear despite how many times I've read it I'm disappointed that I can't use the Bluetooth feature since pictures of the cassette player show it using Bluetooth WITHOUT the adapter I've tried just about everything: reading the manual, putting in batteries and trying to turn on Bluetooth, taking the batteries out, charging the cassette player overnight, but nothing works other than having it plugged into the adapter 24/7 if anyone can help me I'm all ears cause the cassette player works otherwise

@blacklash what kind of batteries are you using. It is absolutely possibly that your batteries do not properly charge.

@oldturkey03 I've always used AA batteries with the cassette player like the manual says the manual says to insert two AA batteries OR to charge the cassette player I've put in two brand-new AA batteries in the cassette player and tried turning on the Bluetooth feature, but with no luck I've tried Bluetooth both with and without batteries, but it won't work unless it's connected to the DC 5V adapter so either I got one with some sort of malfunction or I'm doing something wrong since the batteries and the cassette player work just in the "old-fashioned" way (two AA batteries and the wired headphones that came with the cassette player)

@blacklash It is entirely possible that the power from those AA batteries is just not enough to support the Bluetooth feature. Your DC power adapter provides almost twice the power and can most certainly handled the increased demand. I would try and use some good quality rechargeables and give those a try.

@oldturkey03 What batteries would you recommend? I've been using Energizer batteries

There are several small things that can be the problom:

1) check that the battery us infact the 100% compadable with your player.

2) check for any corrosion of the positive and or negative sides of the battery.(you said they were new so thus is probably not the problom)

What model of player do you have?

It's a gpx model CAS337B. I've heard that this is a relatively cheap brand which I didn't know beforehand since I was just looking for something quickly.

Hi @nativenewyorker

Just verifying that you inserted the 2 x AA batteries as shown in the user manual?

Yes I did. Brand new so I assumed the batteries weren't the problem.

@nativenewyorker

fair enough.

It seems like a wiring problem then between the battery holder terminals and the circuit board.

You will have to open it up and check although if you have an Ohmmeter you could connect it between the +ve and -ve battery holder terminals and check that there's a resistance reading of some kind proving that the connection was OK.

It it is OK then it still needs to be opened though.

Have you tried charging it (if it is possible)
