If your external mouse is not working. How is it connected to the pc?
If connected by a usb cable then issue could be a worn out cable or broken usb socket (test socket with another usb device if possible).
If connected by wireless or bluetooth then its internal battery may need replacing. Or perhaps the mouse is turned off or bluetooth is turned of on your pc.
