Post-screen repair backlight issue (I think...)

I just replaced the LCD using the iFixit screen replacement. When I test the screen, the iPad turns on but only the backlight. Then, after about 6 seconds, the backlight turns off again. This process repeats itself as long as the iPad is plugged in directly to power. However, when I plug the iPad into the computer, neither iTunes nor the computer recognizes it.

Uh, there is an additional circumstance that could factor here... I also damaged the far left portion of battery connector.

No matter how hard I tried, I could not fit any sort of cardstock or otherwise stiff paper as a blocker. Until this iPad, I've never had any issues but there simply wasn't any room to slide anything in. So, I used a pick and...well..."gently"... pried a gap just to fit a pick in. Initially, it was fine but, as I tried working it a little further in...well...you see what happened. The other side also had a pick but with no damage.

Despite the obvious damage, it still seems that the contacts are touching AND the broken portion doesn't appear to have any circuitry that I can see. It looks like the critical portion of the logic board remain intact and so my initial thought was that the damage wouldn't have an impact but... now I'm not so sure.

One thing I've also done was to put kapton tape over the damage and then apply pressure to ensure m2m contact and then plug in to power. It didn't seem to have any impact.

This actually could have something to do with the battery connector. They can be very temperamental after repair. You’re right, it does look like they are making contact on that side. I am less concerned with them making contact with the battery and more concerned about any internal damage.

The skinny pins on the battery connector assist in transmitting battery data. So, things like how much charge the battery has left would be communicated via those lines. It could even be the other side that’s the issue. But this sort of power issue is pretty common with battery connector damage because the iPad can’t tell that there is enough battery to boot up all the way, even if there is. I know it’s a pain, but I would recommend getting the board out to flip it over and have a look. The damage may also be in where the pins connect to the other side of the board, or somewhere you can’t see right now.

That's helpful. So... I'll give it a whirl and pull the board and take a peek. Well, now I have something to do this weekend.
