Could I get a new main board and swap out the old one in my original?
Title.
I figure it might be cheaper and a way to slowly upgrade rather than trade up.

Hi Sev,
Sorry, it would be a nice way to upgrade slowly instead of having to buy an entire new unit, but it's not going to work.
First and most importantly, the displays are not interchangeable. So an OLED version of the Steam Deck isn't going to be able to power your LCD display. So right there you're talking a minimum of swapping out the motherboard and the screen, meaning you've probably just exceeded the cost of buying a whole new deck.
That's not to mention the fact that the motherboard is unlikely to fit in the old chassis and there's a strong chance that the connectors to other parts have almost certainly been moved or changed so they won't connect any more.
Long story short, nope, not gonna work, I'm afraid.

Sev, just to clarify, are you talking about yours being the older model LCD version and you want to update the motherboard to the OLED version? Is that what you're hoping to do?

yes, so that i could then get an oled panel, battery, etc and do a full parts swap out instead of a direct upgrade.
