charging port replacement doesnt fit in connector.

I ordered a replacement for my ipad pro 12.9 3rd generation's charging port.
this is the part I ordered iPad Pro 11" and 12.9" (2018/2020) USB-C Port
linked directly from a guide.

however, when it came time to replace the part, it wouldnt connect to slot for the ribbon cable. the old one connects effortlessly but the new one does not.
upon further inspection they appear to be ever so slightly differnt.

that bit near the bottom of the circled area is differnt. theres an extra ridge on the new one.

I'm not sure why. as they should be for the same model. but in any case, the new one does not fit properly so i cant finish my repair.

does anyone have any idea why this is happening? was it a mistake of sending the wrong part or is it may fault somehow.

legend, would you mind sending a higher-resolution picture? It's really difficult to see.

Im not sure I can. my phones camera isnt that good in general. and well... my ipad is the device i was trying to fix lol. this picture does show the numbers and differences though.

This is an odd one. When I do a search for the part numbers printed on the parts themselves, 01478-A comes up with an eBay listing that says it's for an iPad Pro 1st gen.

Genuine iPad Pro 11" USB-C Charging Port (1st Gen) 821-01478-A - 821-01478 / 235

Unfortunately, the seller did not provide a decent picture of the part they're selling, so you can't really look at it and see if it matches yours. :(

According to the compatibility list, the port they're selling is supposed to work on pretty much all of the iPad Pro models, 1st through 4th gen. If I search for the part number on your replacement part, it also only comes up with one listing.

21413 - FLAT RICARICA PER IPAD PRO 11 2018/2020 12.9 2018/2020 NERO - Compatibile - 821-01478 821-03135-A

This one lists both part numbers though, implying that the two parts are compatible and interchangeable.

Not exactly sure where to go with this next. What's the model number printed on the back of your iPad (the one that starts with A)?

Since you bought the part right here on iFixit, it might be worthwhile to contact their Store personnel and see if they have any ideas or suggestions. Best way is to email them at support@ifixit.com.

the model is A2014 which does seem to be the ipad pro 12.9 inch (3rd gen)

I sent a request to support to see if they can help but figured id also ask here in case someone else had any ideas.

appreciate you looking up these numbers tho as i was just about to do that hah.
