I have a Sony Vaio VPCCW laptop with an i5 processor and 8gb of Ram.
I recently had it repaired by Sony and since it has come back from them it freezes on random occurrences. Some days it won't do it at all and other days it will do it multiple times. It does not seem to be tied to a certain function or action on the computer. It will freeze for 5-10 minutes and then start working again.
My system is 64 bit.

Have you installed new drivers or any new devices or programs before the issue began?
If not here is what I would do. I would reinstall the OS to see if that fixed the issue. If not then I would assume it is a hardware issue whether it be RAM, Motherboard or Hard drive. I would call Sony and have them fix it again correctly.
If you want to test the RAM use Memtest86+ This program will spot bad RAM and it is free.
Whoever manufactured your hard drive will have their own test to run on it to see if it is good.
