does anyone find that iFixit replacement batteries have a short life?

Hello iFixit Community!

In the last couple of years I finally got around to two projects that I had been putting off forever: replacing the batteries in my iPhone 6s as well as my MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014). I have found that the battery in my iPhone as well as my Macbook seem to not last as long as the original Apple batteries.

I am not sure if this is an appropriate question for an iFixit forum but just thought I would ask anyway:

Has anyone else found that iFixit replacement batteries have a short lifespan?

Hehe, that's fine. That's why we have an answer forum.

And, yes. I replaced the battery on my MacBook Retina (2016), and the battery does not last as long as the original Apple battery. This is because the device doesn't quite know how to use the "off-brand" battery, and therefore it drains faster. In fact, on my MacBook, I can't "Optimize Battery Charging," nor can I check the battery's health. This is just one of the unfortunate truths on buying non-Apple products.

It's kind of hard to get another Genuine Apple Battery, as Apple doesn't sell them. As long as the battery from iFixit is working better than the original battery, that is a very good thing.

Not so fast! There really is no difference between them.


First you need to calibrate your system for the new battery so it’s properly charged.


Next a watched pot boils slower than an unwastched pot, right? Of course not but we often think that. This gets us to measuring things so you can be sure. I like using CoconutBattery app. Let’s get a snapshot of the apps main window to see what’s happening.
