I am getting a transparent back panel for my switch, and i was wondering of i need the shield plate as it looks better without it

I'm gonna say yes, it's needed. In addition to shielding the more delicate parts of the console, that plate also helps dissipate the heat that the switch generates, hence the thermal paste you find after removing it
