Hi, have 2012 Imac 27, but is getting slower and slower,I would like to upcicle and use it as monitor with replacing screen for LG 2017 5K original display which came to 2019 models (more nits than previous model) install logic board and connections.
Questions
is case/chasi from 2012 same as 2019, so it can use the same display 2019?

Did you try to give the old iMac new life? Install a newer OS, even the newest using Open Core Legacy Patcher. There are lots of Videos and a guide at iFixit. The procedure is time consuming, but doable, my old Mac works like new!

There are kits to convert your system into a display only, basically salvaging the case and the display and gutting out the rest.
As far as sliding in a 5K display I think thats going a bit far unless you have access to the display presently as the costs would be more than getting a 3rd party 5k display
