Hi, Couple things to think about.

An iMac A1224 (year 2008-2009) with no picture but normal startup sounds (fans spinning) points to a few potential issues:

  1. Video Card or Graphics Issue: This model iMac has a separate video card. It could be faulty or not properly seated.
  2. Logic Board Problem: The logic board is the heart of the computer and might have a malfunction related to video processing.
  3. Display Issue: In rare cases, the display itself could be damaged.

Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

  • Reset PRAM and SMC: These resets can sometimes resolve display glitches. Look up the specific key combinations for your iMac model to reset PRAM and SMC.
  • Check Video Card: If your iMac A1224 has a dedicated video card, try reseating it. Power off the iMac, unplug it, and carefully remove the side panel to access the card. Gently remove the card, clean the contacts with compressed air, and reinsert it firmly.
  • Test with External Monitor: Try connecting your iMac to an external monitor using a Mini-DVI to DVI or HDMI adapter. If you see a picture on the external display, it suggests the internal display might be faulty.
  • Here are some additional resources that you might find helpful:
  • Apple Support: https://support.apple.com/
  • iFixit iMac A1224 Repair Guides: iMac Intel 20" EMC 2133 and 2210 (These guides can help you with disassembly if you're comfortable troubleshooting further)
