Freshly replaced analog stick crazy input.

Hi,

I recently bought a pair of analog stick from Ali.

I successfully replaced the left stick of an Elite 2 controller just a moth ago with no problem. Today, since my other Elite 2 Core had some issue with a wobbly right stick I decided to replace it aswell.

I ended up with a crazy input from that stick.

Could it be a damaged unit, or is more possible that I did something wrong?

To disassemble the faulty analog stick I broke it with pliers, just like I did for the other controller, and I don't i damaged anything in that process.

My only concern is that to remove a pin i struggled a bit and it took a lot of time, so maybe I damaged something overheating it?

Update (10/03/24)

I tested the controller with an online tester and this is what it looks like. I did nothing to the left stick, i replaced only the right one

Here’s the picture, i forgot earlier

The circled connection is the one I struggled the most, and it seems like I deformed a bit the hole (I don’t know the correct terminology 😅)

Hi!

Well, I would to replace that stick again for a new one and see what happens! It’s possible that a trace is damaged causing this. But, to be sure please try with a new joystick first!

Please let us know if this fixed it or not!

Any idea of which trace could be responsible of this behavior?

Looks like bad soldering on the resistor (the 2 small parts on the stick, which have 3 pins on it, as red circle shown in pic) causes it.

Double check your soldering, ensure there is no short or unreliable soldering. re-solder them if needed.

Thanks I’ll check it later. But what about the fact that I’ve only replaced the right stick but got that wrong input from both the sticks?

@alessandro42376 Yes, this is weird. But judged by your test result (the analog stick keeps inputing same and maxinum signal), there must be some faulty points on the resistors.

Have you tried to push the sticks to another direction and see if it works?

Sorry to my poor English.

Nothing happens if I move the sticks. It correctly register if I press them (L3 R3) but they remain stuck at max signal

@alessandro42376 Dead sticks is not a good sign...

How do you remove the old faulty stick, soldering iron or heat gun? for what we know, this sounds like you've damaged other parts on the PCB when you doing your soldering work.

A clear photo of your PCB solder side may helps.

That’s most likely the case, since that was like my third time soldering something on a pcb 😅

Btw I tried removing the old faulty unit with a soldering iron and a suction pump, but then I proceeded to break it apart and desolder pin by pin.

I’ll update pictures of the board
