Reuse the camera and microphone of an A1419 (EMC 2546)

I'm trying to convert this iMac into an external display/docking station. I thought it'd be nice to reuse the camera and microphone.

I have reused cameras on other all-in-one machines and laptops and their cameras are usually just USB devices and all I needed to do was figure out the pinout and solder the wires. However, it isn't the case here, from the schematics. It looks like the module itself doesn't have the chip to convert the images to USB. Rather, the processor is on the motherboard, which I will discard. But I wonder if there's a standalone MCU/IC for that. The schematic mentioned SMIA. I did a Google search and it seems to be an open CMOS sensor protocol.

The microphone is digital. I suspect it's PDM since I2S uses 3 wires and this one only has a data and a clock. If that's indeed the case, I'm relatively well versed on PDM and can code up a microcontroller to process the signal and convert it to USB format.

I wonder if anyone has any experience with either the camera or the microphone and can shed some light on how to reuse them?

Thanks.

I don't know how to do this, so I'm sorry I can't help, but if you find a solution please let us know!

Thanks. I know it’s a long shot and don’t have my expectations high.

I’m also looking for a webcam module that could fit in that tiny space. If everything else fails, there’s always external webcams. But they are not very aesthetically appealing.
