Intel QC7 laptop won't start, but keyboard lights are on

Anyone has experience using Intel QC7 laptop? I got the following issues on mine:

  1. Get power adaptor connected.
  2. Battery indicator on top right is on and blink (eventually turns to solid).
  3. the keyboard light is on and stays on.
  4. Press power button, laptop then turns off, including keyboard lights.
  5. Press power button again, nothing happens.
  6. Disconnect power adapter and reconnect it, it just loops from #1 above.

Hi @lovecd

Possible corrupted BIOS setting(s) preventing normal operation and startup perhaps.

Try a power refresh by disconnecting the charger, opening the laptop and disconnecting the battery from the motherboard and then press and hold the Power button operated for 15-20 seconds.

Reconnect and reassemble everything, connect the charger and check.

Hi @jayeff, yes, it worked that way, thanks a lot!

By the way, when I upgrade it with windows 11, the backlight on keyboard is not functioning, is there any additional software or driver I need to install? Any thoughts?

@lovecd

What is the complet model number of the laptop?

There's not much info online when searching for an Intel QC7.

What is the status of the keyboard in Device Manager? Is it shown as working OK or are there error shown?

If no errors, try updating the keyboard drivers in Device Manager.

Not sure if the backlight drivers are even in with the keyboard drivers though.

Was Win10 the previous OS and did the backlights work then?

If so you may have to find the Win10 backlight (or keyboard) drivers and reinstall them.

Please mark my answer above as Helpful (or Accept) as this lets others know that it worked.

Cheers

@jayeff It is intel LAPQC71B, shows "standard PS/2 keyboard" under keyboard section, no errors. Windows update won't help. Win 10 works though but don't remember I install specific driver for keyboard only.

Any other thoughts?

@lovecd

Found this link which has this link to the drivers and also explains which are relevant to which model, but as to which driver category is for the keyboard backlights I don't know

I suppose they could be part of the Control Centre software as it has the settings for the backlights I think, but not totally sure of this.

Check what version the Control Centre software is in the laptop. The one in the link is Ver 2.2.0.22

@jayeff Have that fille downloaded, but it won't run for some reasons, not sure if system treats it as unsafe file or block it automatically.
