Not working properly and not clicking image

About 1.5 months ago, a very small amount of sea water accidentally splashed onto the camera. It stopped responding immediately. I removed the battery, lens, and memory card and kept it to dry. After 2 days, it turned on, but several functions are now not working properly.

Issues:

1. In Manual (M) mode:

Buttons don’t respond properly.

Viewfinder display switch doesn’t work.

Autofocus won’t click the shutter.

Most settings are locked or show 'function not selectable.'

2. In other modes:

Works partially, but still sometimes buttons don’t respond.

Viewfinder toggle works.

> I think it may be due to internal corrosion. Please check:

Shutter button function

AF sensor and button circuit

Mode dial and internal PCB contacts

> If cleaning or part replacement is possible and cost-effective, I want to repair it. If the motherboard or main circuit is badly corroded, I need advice whether it’s worth it.”

Sea water is corrosive! So letting it dry on its own may have cost you your camera body!

The first issue is leaving the batteries installed so even if the camera is off power is still going through some of the circuitry so with a bit of sea water you have electrolysis taking place effecting the exposed metal surfaces of the circuitry eroding them. Then you have the chemical corrosion aspect and the shorting of electrical paths that can't sustain the higher voltage.

At this point you'll need to find a good camera repair person who knows this camera or send it off to Canon. I'm not sure if Canon we repair a water damaged camera and as the Rebel series is their low end models the cost of the repair make get close to the cost of getting even a used Rebel to replace yours.

Unless I'm mistaken, the Rebel T5i is past the end of its service life, in which case Canon will refuse to repair it. There are plenty of third party repair shops that will still repair the camera though.
