If your Acer Chromebook Spin 511 (C741L) N20Q8 does not power on when the power button is pressed, follow this troubleshooting guide.
The Battery is Depleted
When charging, the LED next to the USB-C slot should light up as red or white when the charger is plugged into the Chromebook and an outlet.
- After making sure that the charger is functional by checking if the LED lights up either red or white on the Chromebook, allow the Chromebook to charge for 30 minutes.
- After allowing the Chromebook to charge, press the power button on the Chromebook to power on the laptop.
- After attempting to boot up the laptop, keep the laptop plugged in order to confirm constant charge.
If the Chromebook does not turn on after this, there is most likely an issue with other parts, such as the motherboard, battery, or USB-C port.
External Devices Interfere with Booting
If the chrome book wont power on while external devices are plugged in, it is likely because they interfere with the booting process.
- Try removing all external devices like phones, USB drives, external hard drives, etc.
- After disconnecting devices, turn chrome book off and on again.
- If the issue is still occurring, connect external devices individually to assess the problem.
- If all else fails you will likely need to replace the laptop's battery. Consult the Acer Chromebook Spin 511 (C741L) N20Q8 battery repair guide here.
A Hardware Reset is Needed
If the Chromebook still does not power on, then the Chromebook hardware may need a hard reset.
- First, plug in the charger to the Chromebook
- Hold down both the power button and refresh key ↻. At the same time, unplug the charger while still holding onto both the power and refresh buttons.
- Wait for 1 minute
- Release and push the power button to see if the Chromebook turns on.
- Connect the charger. The device should turn on.
If these steps do not work, then you may need to replace the battery. Follow this guide to find steps towards replacing the battery.
