Will removal of an emi shield ruin the phone?

My razr recently took a very brief swim in some water. It was submerged on the order of ~2-3 sec. I let it dry for a 56+ hours in some rice. When i tried to turn it on, no response. I plug it in and it will display the Motorola icon then eventually show batter icon with zero charge. It is not a battery issue, already swapped teh battery with another one and observed the same response. Upon further disassembly and inspection, it was revealed there is some corrosion under the lower corner EMI shield closest to the battery. If i remove the shield (soldered on) will i permanently brick the phone? There is data (photos and videos) of great importance to me on the internal 16g sandisk solid state memory card. My plan is to brush the corrosion away where affected. Can i remove a single emi shield with great care and escape with a functioning phone or with this surely be the nail in the coffin with all hope lost? The alternative is to try to mount the sandisk internal storage to another razr mother board and pray i did not ruin it in the process. Has anyone successfully removed an emi shield while still having a fully functional phone?

Kevin, yes you can remove the shields without ruining your phone. EMI shields reduce the electromagnetic field by blocking the field with barriers made of conductive or magnetic materials. Shielding is typically applied to enclosures to isolate electrical devices from outside interference. You most certainly want to clean the board and all components with 90%+ isopropyl alcohol and a soft brush. Check for loose, burned or severely corroded components. Reassemble after and see what you got. Hope this helps, good luck.
