I have a 3rd Gen 32GB touch and it fails to swap portrait/landscape views when rotating the unit. It also fails to turn in driving games that use the tilting of the unit as a steering command. Any ideas about what part/connection this is related to? Thank you everyone for taking time to read/help!!

That's related to the onboard accelerometer. As far as I know, there's no way to fix that without installing a new motherboard.
Seeing as how this is the latest iPod, it's still under warranty. I'd take it to the Apple Store and see what they say.

It may help to go to your settings, click general, then go to reset. Then click reset all settings. Worked on mine. Don't worry it dosent affect apps or you'r stores data. Just settings.(=
