this is a good point- it's been a while since I looked at the details, but from what I remember it was only the dual processor 2009 models that had the delidded CPUs. The single processor was just a normal Xeon, and I believe the 2010/2012 model used standard Xeons as well. But yes, that's a good point for the dual models.
@figone1995 Nope, sorry- this is only for the towers, as they have a very different architecture than the laptops.
Which installer? macOS or the utility? All the links are still working for me.
You can swap the trays with another model of the same generation, yes. 2010/2012 are interchangeable , but you have to swap 2009 with 2009 parts, otherwise the fans will run at full speed due to differing low-level firmware between the 2009 and 2010 models.
Hey Andy,
unfortunately I do not think a replacement cable has ever been made available. On the later revisions the cable is soldered straight to the contacts on the drive- in theory, you could desolder it and re-solder the replacement, but there is no quick fix.
Hi there! Unfortunately, no- this is limited just to the Mac Pro, which has a very different architecture.
Nope, the hifi will not charge any batteries that are installed.
you just need to have a card with the original EFI from Apple- there’s some other cards around, like the Radeon 4870 for example. It may work with newer “compatible” cards like those from Macvidcards.com, but I’m not sure.
You should be able to clone that, yeah. I’ve done it going the opposite way before with no real issues.
No, it can definitely be done in El Capitan - that’s how I’ve done it a few times now. You just have to disable SIP with El Capitan, but the directions for that are in the first few steps. Hope it helps!
